To whom it may concern (dear family):
Whew! It’s been a tiring few days, but we’re here safe and sound. I’m afraid my brain is protesting against the sleep deprivation I’m putting it through, and is withholding key information from me; therefore, a full report of what we’ve been up to for the last few days will be forthcoming. In short, we took off from Salt Lake at about 11:00 pm on Friday night and landed at JFK on Saturday morning. We received a shock when I checked our itinerary for the flight to London and saw that our ticket was for Friday night, not Saturday night! It must have been a miscommunication… somewhere. Two hours of tough negotiation later, Delta rescheduled our flight for free. We got pretty lucky on that one, I must admit. We spent the rest of that day exploring New York with Katie’s family; we met Clara (sp?), Tracy and Hanna’s new daughter, visited Times Square and Ground Zero, and ate some huge pizza. We spent the next night flying (again), this time to London. I don’t sleep all that well on planes, but we were able to nap a little on the way over. Due to a strike of some kind, the customs line was about a quarter mile long, but luckily we were standing next to a fellow PKP (Pembroke-King’s Programme) participant and had a good conversation, so those two hours swam by swiftly. One hectic train ride and a long walk later, and we checked into King’s college! We’re actually living down the street in Pembroke college, but we have access to both. I’ll describe more of the surroundings later, but be assured they are beautiful. Centuries-old churches line the streets, and the architecture is stunning. The city itself is quite small, and has a serene feel about it, especially in the evening once all the tourists leave. We’ve met some great students from Yale, Harvard, Berkley, McGill, Penn, and a few other schools, and we’ve eaten some tasty food. There’s more I should write about, but it’ll have to wait. I haven’t been in bed for about 60 hours, and that’s a little too long. Just wanted you to know we’re safe and sound!
Love,
Jordan and Katie
So good to hear about your adventures! After a few bumps in the road, I'm glad that you are there safe and sound. Can't wait to hear more about your adventures and see pictures! Love you both xoxoxox
ReplyDeleteSo happy you made it safely and are enjoying your experiences so far (even with a few obstacles along the way). Glad you're getting some rest! Loved reading your post about the beautiful area there. Your description made me feel like I was there experiencing it with you. Looking forward to all your updates and reading about this amazing experience! Love you both so much!
ReplyDeleteWhen you have a quiet evening moment, listen. The timeworn stones and ancient trees will whisper of people past yet still present. Are those quiet footsteps Hugh Latimer on his way to meet with other reformationists at the White Horse Inn? What thoughts would Robert Walpole share about the vagaries of political ambitions? And in the waning sunlight can you glimpse the England envisioned and desired by Rupert Brooke as he lay dying in a hospital ship on his way to Gallipoli?
ReplyDeleteEnjoy, you two! If a vicarious mind-meld is possible, then mine is the small voice whispering in your ears, "Look there! Can we go . . . Did you know? Wow!"
Glad to hear you made it there safely. Still jealous of your opportunity but excited for you both! Have fun and keep us updated on your adventure.
